The new gourd challenge is a geometric challenge, and the theme is to include geometric designs of any kind and size in/on your gourd. Members may use any gourd and may add any embellishments, but the main feature must be the Geometric Design. This challenge runs through July 31st. The winner of the $25 gift card will be announced August 28th at our Zoom board meeting.
Join our board meeting to discuss what the challenge will be for October 1st - January 31st. Oh, the possibilities...

WSGS 2024 Gourd Retreat
Here it is! The moment we’ve been waiting for!
The Washington State Gourd Society is hosting our First Annual Gourd Retreat. Come play in the foothills of Mt. Rainier in the community of Mineral Lake. Here the wildlife is bountiful, the landscape breathtaking and fabulous views of Mt. Rainier a plenty. The event will be held at the Historic Mineral Lake Lodge Conference Center. Mineral Lake Lodge was originally built in 1906 as a high-brow wilderness retreat for the fiscal elite of Seattle and Tacoma and is now hosting gourd enthusiasts for a retreat like no other. Overlooking beautiful Mineral Lake, the 3 ½ acre site has 215 feet of pristine, private waterfront. At the end of the day, one can enjoy a campfire down at the lakeshore - wood and s’mores makings are provided. While you are here you may wish to take in the experience of visiting Mt. Rainier National Park right in our backyard.
The retreat runs from April 17-19, 2024 with a group entertainment opportunity on the afternoon evening of the 16th as well as the evening of the 17th & 18th.
We welcome Pam Loranty, Carol Sulham and Claudia Herber to engage us in learning their skills and techniques in classes, taking home masterpieces of our own.
There is a fee for classes but the meals, activities and memories are free. Each guest will acquire accommodations on their own and a list of some venues are included in the registration package. The internet is also a great source for finding just the right place for you.
Please view the attached materials and mail in your payment and registration soon. The deadline is April 1, but the retreat is limited to 30 people. Guests that are not taking classes are excluded from that total count. Come along and join in the fun and excitement of gourding together.
